Men's Golf Sits In Sixth Place After Day 1 Of The Wolverine Intercollegiate

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Junior Korey Ward (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) is tied for fourth place and the Xavier men’s golf team sits in sixth place after day one of the Wolverine Intercollegiate played on Monday.
Playing at the University of Michigan Golf Course, the Musketeers improved between the two rounds by four strokes. Finishing with a 292 after round one, XU improved in the second round, carding a 288. Their improvement placed them sixth in the field of 11 teams and nine strokes out of first place.
Ward shot an even-par 71 in the first round, but bounced back with a 1-under 70 in round two to card a 1-under 141 after 36 holes.
Yuki Kato (Las Vegas, Nev./Faith Lutheran) registered and even-par 71 in the opening round, followed by a 1-over 72 to finish day one tied for 10th place with a 143. Tanapol Vattanapisit (Rayong, Thailand/The Pendleton School), who sits in a tie for 18th place, shot a 1-under 70 in the second round after turning in a 4-over 75 in round one.
Matt Wetterich (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle HS) and Matt Gerard (Cleveland, Ohio/St. Ignatius) round out the Musketeer scoring, as they both sit tied for 44th place after day one. Wetterich shot a pair of 76s, while Gerard carded 75 and 77 in rounds one and two, respectively.
All five Musketeers will return to action Tuesday morning for the third and final round.
