Men's Golf Takes Eighth At The Marshall Invitational

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Xavier men’s golf team concluded its season-opening tournament with an eighth-place finish at the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational at the Guyan Golf & Country Club.
XU carded their best round of the tournament on Tuesday (288) and finished with an 874 (297-289-288). Richmond (287-277-291/855), led by individual champion Danny Pizetoski, took first place, followed by Cincinnati (279-287-292/858) and Eastern Kentucky (294-285-279/858).
Junior Korey Ward (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West), who won the 2012 Marshall Invite, led the Musketeers, finishing in a tie for 12th place, individually. Ward shot a 3-over 74 in the final round and finished with a 213 (72-67-74) in the two-day event.
Freshman Matt Wetterich (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle HS) finished three strokes behind Ward and finished in a tie for 18th place. Wettlerich shot an even-par 71 on Tuesday, after rounds of 72 and 73 on day one.
Senior Yuki Kato (Las Vegas, Nev./Faith Lutheran) carded a 2-over 73 to tie for 41st. Sophomore Patrick Horsting (Kent, United Kingdom/Loretto Golf Academy) recorded the low round of the day for Xavier with a 1-under 70 and finished tied for 49th place on the leaderboard, while junior Tanapol Vattanapisit (Rayong, Thailand/The Pendleton School) rounded out the Musketeer scoring. Vattanapisit finished in 88th place.
The Blue and White will return to the course when they head to Ann Arbor, Mich. to take part in the Michigan Wolverines Invitational from Sept. 16-17. Results and recaps from the tournament will be provided at GoXavier.com at the conclusion of each day.
