Day 1 Results

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Junior Korey Ward (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) is tied for sixth place and the Xavier men's golf team sits in ninth place after day one of the season-opening Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational played on Monday.

Playing at the Guyan Golf & Country Club, the Musketeers improved between the two rounds by eight strokes, finishing with a 297, but improved in the second round, carding a 289. Their improvement placed them ninth in the field of 15 teams and less than 10 strokes out of fifth place.

Ward shot a 1-over 72 in the first round, but bounced back with a 4-under 71 in round two to card a 3-under 139 after 36 holes.

Matt Wetterich (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle HS) and Yuki Kato (Las Vegas, Nev./Faith Lutheran) are tied for 25th and 43rd, respectively.

Patrick Horsting (Kent, United Kingdom/Loretto Golf Academy) is tied for 71st after carding a pair of 77s, while Tanapol Vattanapisit (Rayong, Thailand/The Pendleton School) sits in 88th place.  Freshman Joo-Young Lee (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Darby), competing as an individual, is tied for 71st after rounds of 75 and 79.

All six Musketeers will return to action Tuesday morning for the third and final round.
