Men's Golf Shoots 307 (+23) in Rain-Filled First Round at Central Regional

CHARDON, Ohio - Sophomore Andy Connell and junior Jason Kokrak each carded a 5-over-par 76 on Thursday morning to lead the Xavier University men's golf team in round one of the NCAA Central Regional on the par-71, 7,173-yard Sand Ridge Golf Club. As a team, XU carded a 23-over-par 307 as the Musketeers battled through a constant wind and driving rain through the first 10 holes of the opening round. Xavier is in 23rd place after the first round while Oklahoma State leads the field at 4-under-par (280).

Xavier weathered the storm through the front nine with an 8-over-par as a team, but the Musketeers struggled mightily on the back nine at 15-over-par to finish at 23-over.

Kokrak's round of 76 came on the strength of a 37 on the front nine and a 39 on the back side. Connell carded a 76 (+5) including a birdie on the par-3, No. 4. John Streibich fired a 77 (+6) and led Xavier in birdies with two on the day.

Freshman Mike Beausejour turned in a 7-over-par 78 for the final counting score for Xavier while Andy Pope carded a 79 (+8).

The Musketeers will look to rebound in the second round on Friday, May 19, as XU will tee off at 12:12 p.m.
