WINTER GARDEN, Fla. - The Xavier University men's golf team fired a school-record round of 273 (-15) on Sunday in the final round of the 2006 Atlantic 10 Conference Championship at the Orange County National Golf Center, but it was not enough to overtake first-place Charlotte as the 49ers held to win the A-10 Championship by three strokes. XU finished at 24-under par (840) while Charlotte claimed top team honors at 27-under par (837). For the second consecutive A-10 Championship, two Xavier players shared the individual title as juniors Jason Kokrak and John Streibich each finished with a three-day total of 206 (-10).

XU's third-round total of 273 (-15) is the best round in school history, breaking the previous record of 275 (-13) set in 2003 at the 49er Collegiate Classic.

"I am really proud of our performance today, we had one bad round on Saturday and it cost us the A-10 Championship but our guys showed a lot of heart and we got beat by the better team this weekend," said head coach Doug Steiner. "I am also extremely proud of the individual performances from Jason and John, which says a lot about our program when you have two players from the same team tie for first place.

Streibich turned in a tournament-low round of 66 (-6) on Sunday to finish at 10-under par (206). The round of 66 is also Streibich's low round of the season. Kokrak fired a final round of 68 (-4) for a three-round total of 206 (-10) to earn his second consecutive Co-Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Year Award.

Freshman Mike Beausejour posted his best round of the spring with a 3-under par 69 to finish at 7-over par 223. Andy Pope was the fourth XU player to turn in a round under par on the day as the senior recorded a 70 (-2) and finished in a tie for ninth place with a total of 212 (-4). Andy Connell completed the Xavier lineup with a 76 (+4) to finish at 7-over par (223).

Kokrak, Pope and Streibich were each named to the A-10 All-Conference Team.

The Musketeers will now await word on an at-large berth to the NCAA Regionals, which will be announced on Monday, May 8, at 6:00 p.m. Eastern. Check back at GOXAVIER.com for updated information tomorrow night.
