Men's Golf Ties for Third at Fossum Invitational

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Xavier University men's golf team turned in a final round of 289 (+1) on Sunday as the Musketeers finished with a three-round total of 875 (+11) to tie for third place at the Bruce Fossum Invitational on the par 72, 7,013-yard Forest Akers West Golf Course. XU tied with Illinois for third in the 12-team field while Indiana claimed the team title at 6-over par (870).

Junior John Streibich led the Musketeers on the weekend with a 3-over par 219 including a final round of 72 (E) to go with rounds of 74 (+2) and 73 (+1). Streibich tied for 15th on the individual leaderboard.

Andy Pope fired a 72 (E) in the final round after rounds of 75 (+3) and 73 (+1) to finish at 4-over par (220). Andy Connell also finished at 220 (+4) with a final round of 73 (+1) including an eagle on the par-5 No. 17 after carding a 74 (+2) in the first round and a 73 (+1) in the second round.

Jason Kokrak turned in a final round of 72 (E) to go with rounds of 78 (+7) and 71 (-1) for a three-round total of 221 (+5). Freshman Mike Beausejour rounded out the Xavier lineup at 13-over par (229) after firing a 73 (+1) in round one, a 77 (+5) in the second round and a final round of 79 (+7).

Xavier will take next weekend off before returning to the course on Friday, May 5, as the Musketeers will look to defend their title at the 2006 Atlantic 10 Conference Championships at the Orange County National Golf Center in Winter Garden, Fla.
