Pope Leads Men's Golf at Kepler Intercollegiate

DUBLIN, Ohio - Senior Andy Pope fired rounds of 72 (E) and 75 (+3) on Saturday in leading the Xavier University men's golf team into a tie for fourth place after 36 holes of the 2006 Robert Kepler Intercollegiate at the par 72, 7,159-yard Muirfield Village Golf Club. The Musketeers are tied with Ball State at 27-over par (603) after turning in a 302 (+14) in the first round and a 301 (+13) in round two. Indiana leads the 15-team field with a two-round total of 578 (+2). Pope's day one total of 3-over par (147) puts him in a tie for eighth place with two others on the individual leaderboard. John Streibich carded two rounds of 74 (+2) for a two-round total of 148 (+4). Andy Connell is at 8-over par (152) after he fired a 75 (+3) in the morning and a 77 (+5) in the afternoon. Jason Kokrak recorded a season-high 81 (+9) in round one, but trimmed his score by six strokes in round two with a 75 (+3) for a total of 156 (+14). Freshman Kyle Hodges rounded out the XU lineup with a 23-over par 167 after rounds of 85 (+13) and 82 (+10). The Musketeers will return to the course on Sunday, April 16, for the final round of the 36th Annual Kepler Intercollegiate. Xavier will tee off at 9:20 a.m. and will be paired with Ball State and Illinois. -XU-
