Men's Golf Takes 5th Place At The NYX Hoosier Invitational

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Junior Korey Ward (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) finished in a tie for 14th place individually to lead the Xavier University men's golf team to a fifth place finish at the 2014 NYX Hoosier Invitational.
The 54-hole event was played at the IU Golf Course. The IU Golf Course is a par-71 format and measures 6,813 yards. Xavier was joined in the tournament by BIG EAST foe Butler, as well as host Indiana, Akron, Evansville, Illinois State, IPFW, IUPUI, Michigan, Oakland, Ohio, Toledo, Western Illinois and Youngstown State.
Michigan’s Brett McIntosh (74-70-65/209; -4) took the individual title, while the host Hoosiers took the team title with an 853 (+1), 12 shots ahead of the second place Wolverines, who finished with an 865 (+13). IU and Akron both had the low round for the final round, registering a 285.
Ward’s back-to-back even-par 71s in the second and third rounds helped him secure a share of 14th place overall with a three-round total of 217 (75-71-71). Matt Wetterich (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle HS), who led the field in par 3 scoring (-1), shot his lowest score of the event in the final round (72), en route to turning in a 218 (73-73-72) to take 18th place.
Yuki Kato (Las Vegas, Nev./Faith Lutheran) shot a 3-over 77 (75-76-77/228) on the final day to finish in a tie for 19th place. Joo-Young Lee (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Darby) shot 223 (75-72-76) to earn a share of 35th place.
John Burger (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle HS) rounded out the Blue and White’s scorecard after firing rounds of 74, 73 and 79 to grab a piece of 46th place.
The Musketeers will now prep for the Rutherford Intercollegiate at the Penn State Golf Courses - Blue Course in University Park, Pa. (April 19-20).
