GREENSBORO, N.C. - Senior Andy Pope carded a two-round total of 138 (-6) to lead the Xavier University men's golf team to a second-place finish at the Bridgestone Golf Intercollegiate hosted by UNC-Greensboro at the Forest Oaks Country Club. Xavier fired rounds of 284 (-4) and 293 (+5) to finish the rain-shortened event in 14 strokes behind the winning team from Lamar University.
Pope carded four birdies and an eagle on the par-5 No. 13 en route to a 2-under par 70 to go with his first round of 68 (-4). The senior finished in second place among the 64 individuals competing in the two-round tournament. Junior Jason Kokrak fired a 69 (-3) in Monday's opening round and turned in a 3-over par 75 in the sound round to finish in a tie for fifth place with an even-par 144.
John Streibich finished with a 4-over par 148 with rounds of 72 (E) and 76 (+4). Senior Justin Fender carded a 77 (+5) on Monday, but took four strokes off his total for 73 (+1) on Tuesday to end the tournament at 6-over par (150). Andy Connell completed the Xavier lineup with a two-round total of 150 (+6) with two rounds of 75 (+3).
Xavier will return to the course on Monday, April 10, for the first round of the Saint Mary's Invitational, which will be played in Pebble Beach, Calif.
