MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Xavier University men's golf team finished in 12th place at the 2014 Memphis Intercollegiate on Tuesday, April. 1 at the Colonial Country Club.

The Colonial Country Club plays to a par-72 layout and a length of 7,334 yards. The tournament featured Arkansas State, Austin Peay, Belmont, Cincinnati, Cleveland State, Dayton, Georgetown, Louisiana, Missouri State, Oakland, South Alabama, UMKC, Western Kentucky, Xavier and host Memphis.

Louisiana’s Haraldur Magnus (75-70-70/215) and Austin Peay’s Marco Iten (74-71-72/217) took first and second place, respectively, while the Tigers took the team title with an 874 (+10), 15 shots ahead of second place South Alabama who finished with 889 (+25). Missouri State had the low round for the final round, shooting a 292 (+4), but the Bears finished in the no. 7 spot overall with a 902 (+38).

Yuki Kato (Las Vegas, Nev./Faith Lutheran) shot a 5-over 77 (75-76-77/228) on the final day to finish in a tie for 32nd place with John Burger (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle HS), who carded a final round 78 (75-75-78/228).

Freshman Joo-Young Lee (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Darby) fired rounds of 80, 75 and 78 to grab a share of 49th place.  

Freshman Matt Wetterich (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle HS) shot his lowest score of the event in the first round (75), en route to turning in a 237 (75-81-81) to earn a share of 61st place. Sophomore Matt Gerard (Cleveland, Ohio/St. Ignatius) registered a 240 (83-80-77), good for 70th place.


 

 

The Musketeers will have nearly two weeks off as they prepare for the NYX Hoosier Invitational set to begin Saturday, April 12 at the IU Championship Course.
