Romain Sato Helps Xavier Rally For A Win
CINCINNATI --- The Xavier University Musketeers, playing their first home game since November 17, recorded a 78-74 come-from-behind victory over the Raginí Cajuns of Louisiana-Lafayette on Saturday at Cintas Center. Senior All-American candidate Romain Sato led the way for Xavier, 5-3, with a game-high 23 points to go with seven rebounds.
Louisiana-Lafayette carved out a 42-37 halftime lead, thanks in great part to 63.3 percent shooting from the field. The Ragin’ Cajuns extended their lead to 10 points, 49-39, with under 18 minutes left in the game.
XU answered with a 10-0 spurt to tie the game at 49-all with 15:03 remaining. Louisiana-Lafayette answered with an 8-0 run fueled by a pair of three-pointers, grabbing the lead back at 57-49 at the 13:24 mark. The Musketeers then responded with a 12-0 run of their own to grab the lead again at 61-57 with 9:37 left. Senior forward Anthony Myles, who finished with 14 points and a game-high nine rebounds, started the run by scoring the first two baskets.
The visitors would not go quietly, though, eventually taking their final lead of the game at 71-70 on a free throw with 2:39 left. Sophomore guard Dedrick Finn gave XU the lead for good, 72-71, with a layup with 2:03 left. XU hit six-of-eight free throws down the stretch, including four-of-four from Sato.
Senior guard Antoine Landry had 22 points to lead the Ragin’ Cajuns, who fell to 3-3.
Xavier packs its bags again this week for a road game at undefeated Iowa State on Tuesday. The game can been seen at 8:00 p.m. EST as part of the ESPN Full Court package.
