CINCINNATI --- The Xavier University Musketeers, 9-0, moved up to No. 7 in both the Associated Press Poll and the ESPN/USA Today Coaches poll, which were released today. XU moved up from 10th in last week’s AP Poll, while XU moved up from ninth last week to a tie with Gonzaga for the seventh spot in this week’s ESPN/USA Today poll.

Xavier’s ranking of seventh in the Associated Press Poll ties the school record set once before for the December 7, 1997 poll. Xavier’s ranking of tied for seventh in the ESPN/USA Today is Xavier’s best-ever in that poll, eclipsing the ranking of eighth in the 2008 post-NCAA Tournament Final Poll and the previous regular season high of ninth, which was set twice in the 1997-98 season (11-30-97 and 12-7-97).

No. 7 Xavier is off to the second-best start in school history at 9-0. XU can tie the school record 10-0 start of 1996-97 with a win on Saturday against No. 6 Duke. The Musketeers and Blue Devils square off in a CBS-televised broadcast at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Izod Center in East Rutherford, N.J.
