Xavier, 3-0, is ranked 12th in the Associated Press Poll this week and the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll. Both are up at least one spot from last week's polls.
Xavier, 3-0, recorded a 66-60 win over Miami (Ohio) on Friday, Nov. 18 at Cintas Center as junior Mark Lyons scored 18 points.
Xavier junior Mark Lyons, a member of the 2011-12 preseason A-10 Second Team, leads Xavier in scoring at 20.3 ppg. after three games, while shooting 54.5 percent from the field. He has also contributed 4.0 assists, 5.0 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game.
Xavier senior Tu Holloway enters the Georgia game just four points shy of joining the top 25 scorers in Xavier history. Holloway currently stands 26th in XU history with 1,271 career points.
Xavier senior Kenny Frease has blocked 11 shots over the first three games (3.7 per game), including 10 in the two games this past week. He blocked a career high six shots against IPFW.
Xavier freshman Dezmine Wells has been a big hit in his first three games as a Musketeer, averaging 12.0 ppg. He is bidding to become the first XU freshman to score in double figures for a season since Stanley Burrell scored a team-high 12.7 ppg. in the 2004-05 season.
Xavier completes the season-opening four-game homestand with Georgia on Nov. 25. This is the longest homestand of the season. XU has home games in seven of its first nine games.
Xavier is playing the first of two straight games against teams from the SEC. XU hosts Georgia on Nov. 25 and visits Vanderbilt on Nov. 28. XU has won seven of its last eight games against SEC teams since the 2008 season.
Xavier has now sold out 101 games at the 10,250-seat Cintas Center since the building opened for the 2000-01 season, including two this season. XU has been successful on the court at Cintas Center, too, and takes an 11-game home winning streak into the Georgia game.
Xavier third-year head coach Chris Mack, the 2010-11 Atlantic 10 Conference Coach of the Year, is 53-17 (.757) overall and 29-3 (.906) in Atlantic 10 regular season play.
Xavier made its sixth straight NCAA Tournament appearance in 2011, one of only 12 schools that can say that. Xavier has made 10 of the last 11 NCAA Tournaments.
Xavier has graduated each of the last 83 men's basketball players that have played as seniors, a streak which dates back to 1986.
