• Xavier, 1-0, is ranked 13th in the Associated Press Poll this week and 14th in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll. Both are up one spot from the preseason polls.

• Xavier, 1-0, erased an early 10-point deficit and went on to defeat Morgan State 74-63 on Friday, Nov. 11 at Cintas Center. Junior Mark Lyons led the Musketeers with 22 points, seven rebounds, six assists and three steals. Freshman Dezmine Wells started his first game as a collegian and contributed 12 points and four rebounds.

• Xavier freshman Dezmine Wells started the regular season opener. The last Xavier freshman to start his first collegiate game was Romain Sato in a win over Miami (Ohio) on Nov. 18, 2000 in the first game ever played at Cintas Center. Wells' one-handed alley-oop dunk with his left hand (he's right-handed) in the first half was selected as the No. 2 Play of the Day on ESPN's SportsCenter.

• Xavier senior All-American Tu Holloway will make his 2011-12 regular season debut against IPFW. Holloway, who had to sit out the opener against Morgan State, had played in the previous 95 straight games, including 67 straight starts.

• Xavier's other two returning starters from last season helped XU record the season-opening win. Junior Mark Lyons, a member of the 2011-12 preseason A-10 Second Team, led Xavier with 22 points, seven rebounds, six assists and three steals while also moving over to the starting point guard slot. Senior Kenny Frease, a member of the 2011-12 preseason A-10 Second Team, had 10 points and five rebounds..

• Xavier junior Brad Redford played 11 minutes and hit two three-pointers in the season opener against Morgan State on Nov. 11, Redford's first official game action since the 2010 NCAA Tournament Regional Semifinal against Kansas State (3-25-10). Redford, named as the second-best shooter in college basketball by CBSSports.com, suffered a season-ending knee injury prior to the start of the 2010-11 season.

• Xavier continues the season-opening four-game homestand with IPFW on Nov. 15, Miami (Ohio) on Nov. 18 and Georgia on Nov. 25. This is the longest homestand of the season. XU has home games in seven of its first nine games.

• Xavier sold out its regular season opener. That's not unusual. XU has now sold out 100 games at the 10,250-seat Cintas Center since the building opened for the 2000-01 season, including the Morgan State game on Friday night.

• Xavier has high expectations for the 2011-12 season, including the preseason favorite role in the Atlantic 10. The Xavier program is coming off a sixth straight NCAA Tournament appearance and a fifth straight A-10 Regular Season Championship. Xavier finished 24-8 overall and 15-1 in the A-10 last season.

• Xavier third-year head coach Chris Mack, the 2010-11 Atlantic 10 Conference Coach of the Year, is 51-17 (.750) overall and 29-3 (.906) in Atlantic 10 regular season play.

• Xavier made its sixth straight NCAA Tournament appearance in 2011, one of only 12 schools that can say that. Xavier has made 10 of the last 11 NCAA Tournaments.

• Xavier has graduated each of the last 83 men's basketball players that have played as seniors, a streak which dates back to 1986.
