CINCINNATI - The Xavier University men's basketball program is once again ranked among the "top 10" programs in the United States, according to the Basketball Times rankings released in the publication's latest issue. In fact, the study, which BT has done every five years since 1997, shows that ninth-ranked XU is one of only four men's basketball programs that have ranked in the "top 10" in 1997, 2002 and 2007. The other three programs are Duke, North Carolina and Kansas.

"This is another strong acknowledgement of the tradition of success at Xavier University," said Xavier University Associate Vice President and Athletic Director Mike Bobinski. "Our program has been highly successful on the court while being conducted in a manner that we never have to apologize for. The recognition for Head Coach Sean Miller confirms our belief that we have one of the brightest young coaches in the business. He is a terrific fit for Xavier and we're confident that under Sean's leadership our program will achieve even greater success in the years ahead."

The top 10 programs in this year's rankings were: Duke, North Carolina, Florida, Stanford, Gonzaga, Michigan State, Creighton, Kansas, Xavier and Illinois. The complete overall rankings and individual category rankings are in the Basketball Times article.

The Basketball Times program rankings take into effect six different categories over the ten-year period.  Xavier is 17th in winning percentage (.710), sixth in program cleanliness, 17th in the head coach ranking of Sean Miller, tied for 14th in current NBA players (3), tied for fourth in graduation rate according to the 2007 NCAA report, eighth in the USNWR academic peer assessment ranking by U.S. News & World Report that complements a school's graduation rate with the (perceived) value of its diploma. A panel of 10 writers from Basketball Times and the USBWA (United States Basketball Writers Association) compiled the rankings for head coaches and program cleanliness.
