CINCINNATI - The BIG EAST Conference announced today that Xavier University sophomore guard and All-America candidate Semaj Christon has been named preseason First Team All-BIG EAST. The honor was announced today at BIG EAST Basketball Media Day at Chelsea Piers in New York City.

Today's honor is the latest in a growing list of preseason honors for Christon, who has been named as a preseason Third Team All-American by NBCSports.com and Athlon Sports preseason College Basketball Magazine and preseason Fourth Team All-American by collegesportsmadness.com.

Xavier, 17-14 last season, was picked to finish seventh in its first season in the 10-team league in the preseason poll of media and coaches. Marquette was picked as the preseason favorite. Christon and fellow tri-captain, senior Isaiah Philmore, joined head coach Chris Mack at BIG EAST Media Day.

Christon, a member of the 2013 Kyle Macy Freshman All-America Team (CollegeInsider.com) and an NABC (National Association of Basketball Coaches) District 4 Second Team selection, was Xavier's first-ever Atlantic 10 Conference Rookie of the Year selection. The 2012-13 Atlantic 10 Conference Second Team selection led XU in scoring at 15.2 ppg. (eighth overall and first among freshmen in the Atlantic 10), assists at 4.6 apg. (fifth overall and second among freshmen in the A-10) and steals at 1.5 spg. He scored in double figures in 27 games, including 19 straight games to end the season.
