Men's Basketball Will Make A School Record 10 Regular Season National TV Appearances
Sept. 21, 2006 CINCINNATI - Xavier University announced that the men's basketball team will be making a school-record 10 regular season appearances on national television for the 2006-07 season. That number is up from four appearances last season. The national TV slate includes one national broadcast on the Atlantic 10 Conference's new partner network, CSTV, five games on ESPN2 and four games on ESPNU. "This level of national exposure is great news for our basketball program," said Xavier Athletic Director Mike Bobinski. "It also gives us an opportunity to spotlight Xavier at a very exciting time of growth for the University." The Atlantic 10 Conference's CSTV regional television schedule will be released at a later date as will the games for Xavier's 10-game package on FSN Ohio. There is a possibility that games from the Paradise Jam in the U.S. Virgin Islands could be added to the television schedule in addition to these packages. Xavier fans have reason to be excited about the upcoming season under third-year head coach Sean Miller. Miller returns all five starters from the team that won the 2006 Atlantic 10 Conference Championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. In fact, XU returns the top seven players that put together that championship run. Two of the returning starters are seniors, including forward Justin Cage, the 2006 Atlantic 10 Championship "Most Outstanding Player" and two-time A-10 All-Defensive Team selection. Cage and fellow senior forward Justin Doellman are expected to start for the fourth straight season. The duo has won two Atlantic 10 Championships and two NCAA Tournament berths in three years in the starting lineup. Junior guard Stanley Burrell, a member of the 2005-06 Atlantic 10 Conference Second Team, led the team in scoring for the second straight year at 14.4 ppg.
