Xavier University Releases Its 2007-08 Men's Basketball Schedule

Sept. 12, 2007

CINCINNATI -

Xavier University released its 2007-08 men's basketball schedule today, a schedule that includes a record 31 regular season games. The schedule includes a record 17 regular season home games. Full season ticket and mini-packs are on sale now.

One reason for the increased numbers of games is that Xavier plays four games this season as part of the 2007 Chicago Invitational Challenge. Xavier's home and season opener against Southeast Missouri State on Saturday, November 10 is its first round game. XU hosts Coppin State on Tuesday, November 20 in a second round game. Xavier's third round game is against Kent State on Friday, November 23 at Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. XU will play either Indiana or Illinois State in the Championship Round on Saturday, November 24 at Sears Centre.

"This season's home schedule might be the most attractive in the history of our program," said fourth-year head coach Sean Miller, who is coming off his second straight 20-win season and second straight NCAA Tournament appearance. "We play Tennessee, Virginia, Creighton and Cincinnati at home in addition to our Atlantic 10 schedule. If you add the (18th home) game against Kansas State at US Bank Arena, that's a very impressive home schedule.  Simply put, to be considered among the best college basketball programs you have to be willing to compete against them."

The Musketeer road schedule includes games at Auburn, Arizona State and Miami (Ohio) in addition to the A-10 slate.

Xavier will play a schedule that includes 10 potential games against 2007 postseason teams, including eight against 2007 NCAA Tournament teams. The games against NCAA teams include 2007 "Sweet 16" participant Tennessee, Virginia, Indiana, Creighton, Belmont, Miami (Ohio) and home-and-away against George Washington.

"We attempt to put a non conference schedule together that gives our team an opportunity to be tested and prepared for our conference season that begins in January.  We want balance in our non-conference schedule when it comes to home and away games.  We certainly want to participate in premier exempt tournaments that are now a part of the new landscape of college basketball. At Xavier we have a passionate season ticket base and I want our fans to be excited about the quality of our competition."

Xavier will once again play long-time rival Dayton home-and-away but its other two "partners" for home-and-away series this season are George Washington and Saint Joseph's, traditionally two of the A-10's best programs. "Our conference will be very competitive this season.  There are several programs that will be much improved from a year ago."

The final game times and television schedule will be released at a later date.

Full season and mini-packs are on sale now. This year's six-packs include the Skyline Chili Crosstown Shootout.  Less than 100 six-packs remain available. Individual game tickets will go on sale to the general public on October 23. To purchase tickets or for more information please visit GoXavier.com or call 513-745-3411.
