Rio de Janeiro, Brazil --- The Xavier University men's basketball team completed a 4-0 exhibition trip to Brazil with a 91-68 win over Flamengo on Saturday. Xavier jumped out to a 13-0 lead and was never seriously threatened the rest of the game.
Two freshmen led the Musketeer offense as Trevon Bluiett hit 6-of-7 from the field, including 3-of-3 from 3-point range, on his way to 18 points and Edmond Sumner contributed 16 points, while attacking the basket and cashing in with a 9-of-9 effort from the free-throw line.
Sophomore Jalen Reynolds led the Musketeer rebounding efforts with 11, while completing another double-double with 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the field. Junior Remy Abell matched him in the scoring column with 13 points and a team-high five assists.
Xavier used its fast start to build a 48-31 halftime lead. The Musketeers shot 55.9 percent from the field in the first half but allowed Flamengo 50 percent shooting. The Musketeers stayed hot in the second half, shooting 54.5 percent, but clamped down more on the defensive end to hold Flamengo to 36.7 percent from the field after the break.
The physical defensive style of Flamengo forced 23 Xavier turnovers but XU did cash in on the 26 Flamengo fouls, hitting 21-of-28 from the free-throw line.
