Men's Basketball Wins Second Game In Brazil With Another Big Second Half

Macae´, Brazil --- The Xavier University Musketeers used a big second half for the second straight night and rolled to an 81-53 win over Club Macae´ on Wednesday night in the second game of Xavier's four-game stop in Brazil. XU's final two games will be played on Friday and Saturday.
Sophomore Jalen Reynolds led Xavier in scoring and rebounding, posting a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Three other Musketeers reached double figures in scoring, including junior Remy Abell with 12 and freshmen Sean O'Mara and Makinde London with 10 points each. Abell, O'Mara and London started the game along with freshmen Larry Austin, Jr. and Trevon Bluiett.
Xavier jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first quarter on a pair of baskets from Abell followed by a pair from O'Mara. XU led 13-7 after the first of the four 10-minute quarters.
Macae´ came out strong in the second quarter, outscoring XU 12-2 and grabbing a 19-15 lead with 6:24 left before halftime. The run included a 3-pointer and three made free throws following an XU foul on a Macae´ 3-point attempt. XU trailed 27-25 with under a minute left in the half but 3-pointers by sophomore Myles Davis and London gave the Musketeers a 31-27 halftime lead.
The Xavier offense exploded for 50 points in the final two quarters on 50 percent shooting from the field with just two turnovers. Sophomore Brandon Randolph led the XU scorers in the second half with his only nine points coming after the break.
Xavier won the rebounding battle 48-28. XU shot 47.8 percent from the field for the game, while holding Macae´ to 30.8 percent.
The Musketeers enjoyed a post-game team dinner in Macae´ before taking the three-hour bus trip back to their hotel in Rio de Janeiro. The final two games will be played in the Rio area.
