Xavier and Kansas State Sign Deal To Play Basketball
May 3, 2006
Xavier University and Kansas State University have signed an agreement to begin a men's basketball series. The first Kansas State game, which will be played January 3, 2007 at U.S. Bank Arena, is the first of a three-year series against the Wildcats. XU will play KSU each of the next two seasons, 2006-07 and 2007-08, at U.S. Bank Arena, which was the site of XU's four-game sweep of the 2006 Atlantic 10 Championship. XU will play KSU in Manhattan in the 2008-09 season.
"We are excited to have the opportunity to play Kansas State in the City of Cincinnati," said Xavier Head Coach Sean Miller, who led Xavier to a 21-11 overall record this past season, including the 2006 Atlantic 10 Conference Championship and a berth in the NCAA Tournament. "We will be facing an outstanding team from a very well respected conference, The Big 12. This is our final piece to a very competitive and exciting non-conference schedule for 2006-2007."
"It is a pleasure and an honor to bring a game of this magnitude to this city," said U.S. Bank Arena Vice President of Programming and Business Development Jim Moehring. "We have worked diligently with both of the schools to get this done. We look forward to hosting a great night of basketball on January 3."
Xavier and Illinois, who played last season at the United Center in Chicago, will play again this season on December 30 at U.S. Bank Arena. As a clarification for XU season ticket holders, the Illinois game will be part of the season ticket package. Kansas State will not be a part of the season ticket package, but season ticket holders will get a chance to purchase priority seats to the Kansas State game prior to the public sale.
Xavier will open the 2006-07 regular season on November 11 against Coastal Carolina at Cintas Center, which will be the first of Xavier's 15 regular season home games at its on campus home.
