Students Welcome Back Basketball Team

More than 100 hearty students braved below freezing temperatures early Monday morning to welcome the Xavier men's basketball team back to campus from Orlando where the Musketeers won two games to advance to the NCAA Tournament "Sweet 16."

"You guys are crazy to be out here in this cold," head coach Thad Matta told the crowd that assembled to meet the team bus. "We're going to need you in Atlanta."

Atlanta is the site of the regional where Xavier will make its second ever appearance in the Round of 16.

The Musketeers got this far after an 89-74 win Sunday afternoon over Mississippi State in Orlando.

The team arrived back on campus at 2:45 a.m. The crowd of students began assembling outside Cintas Center around 2 a.m. to greet the team.

Xavier will play Texas at 7:27 p.m. Friday at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta in the "Sweet 16." XU's open practice will be at noon Thursday.
