Musketeers Move On To A-10 Championship Game
DAYTON, Ohio - The Xavier men's basketball team won its third game in as many days and defeated George Washington 70-47, in the Atlantic 10 semifinals at UD Arena on Friday.
XU (22-10), winners of 12 of its last 13 games, will play in its third A-10 Championship Game on Saturday at 6 p.m. on ESPN against Dayton.
Senior guard Lionel Chalmers matched a career-high with 26 points on the strength of 6-of-9 shooting from the three point range while dishing out five assists.
Classmate Romain Sato posted his 19th career double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds.
Freshman Justin Doellman added 14 points and seven rebounds after scoring 12 in the first half.
Senior Anthony Myles grabbed eight rebounds and freshman Brandon Cole hauled in seven as the Musketeers held a 42-31 edge on the board.
Xavier tied its season high with 11 threes in the game and has shot 41.7 percent (23-of-56) from behind the arc in the A-10 Tournament.
The Musketeers have won their past three games by an average margin of 23 points and have not trailed at any point in the A-10 Tournament.
Xavier's previous two final game appearances have resulted in an A-10 Championship for the Musketeers (1998, 2002).
