Xavier Men's Basketball Team Cracks AP Top 25

Feb. 14, 2011

CINCINNATI - Xavier, 18-6 overall, is ranked 24th in this week's Associated Press Poll, its first AP ranking since coming in at No. 25 in the final AP Poll at the end of the 2009-10 regular season. XU made each of the last three AP polls last season. This is the fifth straight season XU has earned an AP ranking during the regular season.

The Musketeers, alone in first place at 9-1 in the Atlantic 10 Conference, are coming off a 71-63 win at Duquesne on Sunday. Xavier used a career-high 19-point effort from senior Danté Jackson and another big second half performance from junior Tu Holloway, who scored 15 of his game-high 20 points in the second half. Xavier is shooting for its fifth straight Atlantic 10 Conference Regular Season Championship.

Xavier, which has won three straight games and 10 of its last 11 games, is ranked 19th in the latest RPI ratings (2-14-11) for collegerpi.com. XU's strength of schedule stands 29th.

The Musketeers play at Saint Joseph's on Wednesday night, a matchup that is the final game of a three-game road trip. It also ends a stretch of five out of six games on the road.

For the record, Xavier is one of just eight schools that have men's and women's teams ranked in the AP Top 25 this week: Connecticut, Duke, Georgetown, Kentucky, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Texas A&M and Xavier. The XU women are ranked sixth in this week's AP Poll.
