CINCINNATI --- Xavier’s Tu Holloway has been named National Player of the Week by ESPN.com following his career-high 33-point game on Saturday in the 85-62 blowout win at Richmond. In addition, Holloway has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the second straight week and the fifth time this season.
Holloway averaged 27.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists in leading Xavier to two wins this past week. The junior guard opened the week netting 22 points in a win over George Washington. He added five rebounds, four assists and two steals in the win against the Colonials. Over the weekend against Richmond, Holloway scored a career-high 33 points to go with seven rebounds and five assists. He shot a perfect 17-for-17 from the free throw line. In the win over the Spiders, the Hempstead, N.Y., native also became the 48th Xavier player to join the XU 1,000 Point Club.
Holloway leads the team and is ranked in the top five in the Atlantic 10 in three major categories: scoring at 21.1 ppg. (first in the A-10 and 11th in the nation in the NCAA rankings released today), assists at 5.3 apg. (second in the A-10 and 36th in the nation) and free throw percentage (second in the A-10 at 86.3 percent).
Xavier, 15-5 overall and 7-0 in the Atlantic 10 Conference, takes its seven-game winning streak to Charlotte for a 7:30 p.m. Wednesday tilt. The game will be broadcast on FOX Sports Ohio and 700 WLW-AM.
