The 39-point margin of victory was the largest for Xavier in an Atlantic 10 game. It was the largest margin of victory since downing St. Peter’s 87-48 at Cintas Center on Nov. 18, 2002 in the opening round of the Preseason NIT.
Xavier (10-6, 2-2 Atlantic 10) shot 52.5 percent (32-61) for the game, including an 8-18 performance from three point range.
Senior Romain Sato added 12 points and six rebounds, while sophomore Will Caudle had 12 points while hitting all four of his field goal attempts and all four of his free throw attempts.
Freshman Brandon Cole had a career high eight points and a career high 10 rebounds. Dedrick Finn finished with nine points and five assists.
La Salle leading scorer Gary Neal, who came in averaging 20.4 points per game, hit just one field goal and finished with seven points.
Steven Smith scored 10 points to lead the Explorers (7-10, 2-2). La Salle shot just 28.2 percent (15-53) from field in the game.
Ten minutes into the game, Xavier had built a 22-6 lead behind 9-for-14 shooting. La Salle, meanwhile, was just 3-for-10 from the field and had turned the ball over six times.
All nine Musketeers who played in the first half scored as the Musketeers held a 47-19 lead at intermission. XU shot 62.1 percent (18-29) in the opening period.
Xavier returns to action at 2 p.m. on Sunday when the Musketeers host Richmond at Cintas Center.
