Time Warner Cable to Carry Five Men's Basketball Games
Jan. 8, 2013
CINCINNATI- Time Warner Cable announced today that Time Warner Cable SportsChannel will produce five Xavier University men’s basketball games in high definition this season, delivering them to a statewide audience, as well as the Northern Kentucky portion of the Cincinnati metro area.
Play-by-play veteran Bob McElligott and former Ohio State basketball standout Tony White will form the announce team, but former Ohio State assistant coach Dave Cecutti will sit in for White this Thursday (Jan. 10), when Temple visits the Cintas Center for the first Musketeers’ first game on TWC SportsChannel.
The games will air throughout Ohio on channel 311 and 1311 HD, as well as on Insight Cable channel 9 in Northern Kentucky. The five-game slate will be rounded out by Atlantic 10 Conference matchups on Jan. 19 vs. LaSalle, Feb. 9 at Duquesne, Feb. 13 vs. Fordham, and March 6 vs. Saint Louis. The games are part of a 10-game Atlantic 10 regional package from CBS Sports licensed to Time Warner Cable.
“We are thrilled to add Xavier basketball to our ever-expanding programming lineup,” said Vince Jones, director of sports programming for Time Warner Cable in Ohio and Kentucky. “The Musketeers have such a great following and storied history. We are particularly pleased to be able make these five games available to our customers in Northern Kentucky (Insight), as well as in high definition to our customers throughout the state of Ohio.”
McElligott has been calling sports on Time Warner Cable for 10 years, starting in upstate New York, before moving to Ohio. He handles play-by-play for basketball, football, hockey and volleyball. He is also in his fourth season as the radio color analyst and Web TV host for the NHL’s Columbus Blue Jackets.
While in New York, McElligott called both basketball and football games for Syracuse and Colgate Universities. He also covered baseball and hockey at the Triple-A level, for the Syracuse Chiefs and Syracuse Crunch.
White was a two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection at Ohio State, were he served as a captain during his senior season (1988-89). Following his graduation from Ohio State, with degrees in both marketing and finance, White earned a Juris Doctor degree from the Northwestern University School of Law and now serves as the Partner-in-Charge of the Thompson Hine law firm’s Columbus office.
White has also made a name for himself in the broadcast industry. He served as a color analyst for the Big Ten Network’s national television broadcasts of Ohio State men’s basketball from 2008-10 and he has been a regular color analyst for OHSAA coverage on ONN and Sports Time Ohio. He has also had a long career in radio, serving as 610 WTVN radio’s college basketball analyst for the last 16 years.
