The X's and O's

• Xavier, 9-4, defeated Illinois 65-59 this past Friday at U.S. Bank Arena as junior guard Drew Lavender scored a game-high and Xavier career-high 17 points to go with five assists, two steals and no turnovers.

• U.S. Bank Arena, the site of the game against Illinois and this game against Kansas State, is the downtown facility which was the site of Xavier's four-game run through the 2006 Atlantic 10 Championship. Xavier has now played seven games at U.S. Bank Arena in the past three seasons, compiling a 6-1 record. That 6-1 mark includes two games in the 2005 A-10 Tournament (1-1) and four in the 2006 A-10 Tournament (4-0). The 2007 Atlantic 10 Championship will be in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

• The Kansas State game is Xavier's final non-conference game before opening Atlantic 10 Conference action against Temple on Saturday, January 6 at Cintas Center.

• Xavier, which has not played outside the City of Cincinnati since a December 9 game at Creighton, will not play outside the city again until January 11 at Fordham.

• Xavier's balanced attacked has four players averaging in double figures in scoring. Junior forward Josh Duncan leads the team in scoring at 11.9 ppg. Junior guard Stanley Burrell (11.2 ppg.) and senior forwards Justin Cage (10.2 ppg.) and Justin Doellman (10.2 ppg.) are next on the list.

• Senior forward Justin Doellman scored 15 points in the win over Illinois, including 12 in the decisive second half. Doellman now has 1,070 points for his career, which puts him in 37th place on Xavier's all-time scoring list.

• Junior guard Stanley Burrell, a preseason First Team All-Atlantic 10 Conference selection, enters the Kansas State game with 974 career points. He is just 26 points shy of becoming the 43rd member of Xavier's 1,000 Point Club.

• Senior forward Justin Cage scored 13 points and grabbed six rebounds in the win over Illinois. Cage now has 957 points for his career and is just 43 shy of 1,000.

• Freshman Derrick Brown has been impressive, while earning 17.1 minutes per game this season. He is shooting 78.6 percent from the field, which is thanks in great part to the fact that he has recorded a team-high 16 dunks this season. Brown posted career highs of 13 points, three blocks and 25 minutes played against Bucknell.
