Xavier, 9-4, defeated Illinois 65-59 this past Friday at U.S. Bank Arena as junior guard Drew Lavender scored a game-high and Xavier career-high 17 points to go with five assists, two steals and no turnovers.
U.S. Bank Arena, the site of the game against Illinois and this game against Kansas State, is the downtown facility which was the site of Xavier's four-game run through the 2006 Atlantic 10 Championship. Xavier has now played seven games at U.S. Bank Arena in the past three seasons, compiling a 6-1 record. Freshman Derrick Brown has been impressive, while earning 17.1 minutes per game this season. He is shooting 78.6 percent from the field, which is thanks in great part to the fact that he has recorded a team-high 16 dunks this season. Brown posted career highs of 13 points, three blocks and 25 minutes played against Bucknell.
