#22 Xavier (10-2) snapped its two-game losing skid by defeating Robert Morris (6-7), 78-57. The Musketeers were led by Jason Love and Brad Redford who scored 15 points apiece, and B.J. Raymond who added 13. Jamel McLean grabbed 11 rebounds and Terrell Holloway had five assists. Robert Morris was led by Jeremy Chappell who scored 17 points and Rob Robinson who added 12. Khalif Foster grabbed six rebounds and Chappell and Mezie Nwigwe each had three assists.
Xavier is now 112-17 (.868) overall during its nine seasons at Cintas Center, and 58-7 (.892) against non-conference opponents its on-campus home arena.
Xavier matched its season high with 25 field goals made. The Musketeers also had 25 made shots against Duke at the Izod Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey (12-20-08) and against Toledo (11-17-08).
Xavier held Robert Morris to 39 percent field goal shooting. The Musketeers have now held nine of their 12 opponents under 40 percent shooting. For the season, XU opponents have hit only 37.4 percent of their shots from the field.
Jason Love scored a career-high 15 points, including 11 in the first half. His previous career high was 13 points at Temple (1-16-08). He also added six rebounds and three blocks in 20 minutes of action.
Brad Redford scored a career-high 15 points. His previous high was seven points against Missouri at the Puerto Rico Tip-Off (11-20-08). He also knocked down a career-high five three-pointers. His previous high was two triples against Missouri and against Duke at the Izod Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey (12-20-08). He also established career highs in field goals made with five, attempts with eight (all from behind the three-point arc), and minutes played with 20.
Jamel McLean grabbed a Xavier career-high 11 rebounds. His previous high was 10 against IPFW (11-14-08). McLean grabbed 11 rebounds twice as a freshman at Tulsa.
Terrell Holloway dished out a career-high five assists. His previous high was three assists against Ohio (12-10-08) and against Virginia Tech at the Puerto Rico Tip-Off (11-21-08).
After falling behind 2-0 at 19:25, XU scored the next 11 points to take an 11-2 lead at 16:06. Jason Love scored 5 points to lead the Musketeer attack, with B.J. Raymond and Kenny Frease chipping in 3 points apiece.
Up Next: The Musketeers travel to Charlottesville, Virginia, to face the Virginia Cavaliers on Saturday, January 3, at 2:00 p.m. This will be third game between the two schools, with the series tied at one win apiece. Last year, XU raced out to a 61-30 halftime lead to defeat UVA, 108-70, at Cintas Center. In that contest, seven Musketeers scored in double figures, led by Stanley Burrell who scored 15 points. XU shot 66.7 percent from the field and 73.3 (11-for-15) from behind the three-point arc in the first half to take the commanding lead. For the game, XU shot 63.8 percent from the field and 61.5 percent (16-for-26) from behind the three-point arc, both season highs. The 108 points were also a season high. The 16 three-pointers tied the school record for threes in a game.
