Xavier (7-4) fell to the Wofford College Terriers (6-6) 56-55 this afternoon, in the second meeting ever between the schools.  The Musketeers defeated the Terriers in their only other meeting, 94-90 in triple overtime at Cintas Center, on November 27, 2010.

With this afternoon’s loss, Xavier’s record over its 13 seasons in Cintas Center is now 166-23 (.878).  Against non-conference opponents Xavier’s record at Cintas Center is 81-12 (.871).


Trailing 6-2 with 18:12 to go in the first half, Xavier went on a 16-3 run to take an 18-9 lead with 10:24 remaining.  Semaj Christon, Travis Taylor and Jeff Robinson each contributed four points during the run.

Trailing at halftime 34-22, Wofford began the second half with a 12-2 run to close the gap to 36-34 with 15:18 left in the game.  Karl Cochran led the Terriers with eight points during the run.

With Xavier leading 40-34 at the 14:25 mark, the Terriers ran off six straight points to tie the game 40-all with 12:59 remaining.  Taylor Waggener and Spencer Collins each made a three-pointer for the Terriers.


Travis Taylor led Xavier scorers with 20 points, to tie his Xavier career high.  He also scored 20 against Fairleigh-Dickinson on November 9, 2012.  Taylor also pulled down 11 rebounds this afternoon for his third double-double of the season and second in a row.  His 11 rebounds were one off his career high of 12, which he has reached twice as a Musketeer.

Semaj Christon contributed 10 points and seven assists, one off his career high in the Musketeers’ victory over Butler on November 13.

Karl Cochran led Wofford with 20 points.  Spencer Collins added 17 to tie his season high, which came at Jacksonville University on December 18.


Xavier next plays on Saturday, December 29, at 6 P.M., at Tennessee, in Knoxville.  ESPNU will televise the game.
