Game Notes

Oral Roberts (8-4) handed #8/9 Xavier (9-1) its first loss of the season and also snapped XU's 14-game home winning streak by defeating the Musketeers, 64-42. Dominique Morrison scored a game-high 19 points to pace the Golden Eagles, while Warren Niles added 15 and Steven Roundtree 12. Roundtree grabbed 8 rebounds and Niles dished out 7 assists. Xavier was led by Travis Taylor who scored 11 points and Dee Davis who chipped in 10. Taylor grabbed 9 rebounds and Davis had 9 assists.

The 64-42 defeat was the worst loss by an XU team since falling to the University of Dayton, 90-65, at UD Arena on February 6, 2010. It was the worst lost by Xavier at Cintas Center. The previous worst loss was by 20 points to Cincinnati (75-55) on December 14, 2001. It also was the worst home loss by a Xavier team since falling to La Salle, 80-49, on January 23, 2000, at Cincinnati Gardens.

The 42 points for the Musketeers were the fewest by an XU team since tallying just 40 points in a 59-40 loss at Temple on January 25, 2000.

The 19 first-half points by the Musketeers were the fewest in a first half since scoring just 19 points at Miami (Ohio) on December 1, 2010.

Xavier shot just 32.7 percent from the field (17-for-52). The last time XU shot less than 35 percent from the field was at Gonzaga when it shot 33.3 percent (16-for-48) in a 64-54 loss on December 22, 2010.

Xavier hit just 9.1 percent (1-for-11) from behind the three-point arc. XU entered the game connecting on 39 percent (41-for-105) of its three-point attempts this season.

Xavier starters Tu Holloway, Mark Lyons, and Dez Wells did not play in today's game due to suspensions following the Cincinnati game. The trio had combined for averages of 44.5 points, 12.2 rebounds, and 8.5 assists per game this season.

Brad Redford and Dee Davis each made their first collegiate starts in today's game.

Dee Davis established career highs in scoring, rebounding, assists, and minutes played with 10 points, 3 rebounds, 6 assists, and 34 minutes. His previous highs were 5 points against Georgia (11-25-11), 2 rebounds at Vanderbilt (11-28-11) and Georgia (11-25-11), 2 assists against Morgan State (11-11-11), and 22 minutes against Morgan State (11-11-11).

Brad Redford logged a career-high 35 minutes. His previous high was 24 minutes against Charlotte (1-13-10).


Trailing 7-4 at 15:18, ORU went on a 12-0 run to take a 16-7 lead at 12:11. Damen Bell-Holter scored 4 points during the spurt.

Leading 21-14 at 6:38, ORU went on a 10-0 run to extend the lead to 31-14 at 4:00. Warren Niles scored 5 points during the stretch.

Up Next: Xavier will face Long Beach State at the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic, in Honolulu, Hawaii, on Thursday, December 22, at 11 p.m. This will be the first meeting between the schools. The Musketeers also will play on Friday, December 23, and Sunday, December 25, at times to be determined. Other teams competing in the tournament include Auburn, Hawaii, Clemson, Kansas State, UTEP, and Southern Illinois.
