Xavier Edges Out Bowling Green, 85-73, In Overtime

CINCINNATI - Xavier edged out Bowling Green 85-73 in overtime to snap its three-game losing streak. With the win, the Musketeers improve to 6-3 on the season, and four Musketeers scored in double figures.
Sophomore Semaj Christon led the team in scoring with 22 points, his season high. He had three assists and made 12 of 16 from the free throw line.
Freshman Myles Davis scored 12 of his 14 points from behind the arc. Two of his three-pointers came at a crucial time in overtime.
Junior Dee Davis had a strong performance, scoring eight points, to go along with six rebounds and his team-leading eight assists.
The first half was tightly contested, as there were seven lead changes. Highlights of the first half included a monster alley-oop by freshman Jalen Reynolds, assisted on the play by fellow freshman Brandon Randolph. The Musketeers went on a mini run by a M. Davis three-pointer and a transition layup by D. Davis to go up 22-17. Later in the half, Farr scored seven straight points on a three-pointer, dunk and reverse layup to give XU an eight point lead. Due to several Xavier turnovers, Bowling Green finished the half on a 12-0 run to take a 33-29 halftime lead.
In the opening four minutes of the second half, junior Justin Martin scored five straight points to tie the game at 37. Christon had six points on a 10-2 Xavier run. Later in the half, Philmore emerged for the Musketeers, scoring eight straight. Bowling Green would not go away, as they went on a 13-2 run over 2:10 to tie the game. The Falcons led 68-66 with six seconds left, but Christon nailed two foul shots to send the game to overtime.
In overtime, M. Davis nailed a three-pointer to give Xavier a 72-69 lead. Christon had a pair of free throws and a layup to give the Musketeers a six-point lead. With 2:30 remaining, Falcons forward Richaun Holmes hit a three-pointer, but M. Davis quickly responded with one of his own. Xavier did not give up the lead for the rest of the period making the final score, 85-73.
XU's final stat line consisted of a 54.9 field goal percentage (28-of-51). The Musketeers also dominated from behind the arc, making six of nine (66.7 percent). Bowling Green was held to a 37.9 field goal percentage (25-of-66) and shot 25 percent (5-of-20) from three-point territory. Xavier got big production from its bench, who scored 39 total points.
Richaun Holmes was the Falcons' top scorer with 26 points, and grabbing nine rebounds.
