CINCINNATI - Junior forward Josh Duncan poured in a career-high 25 points and the Musketeers shot a blistering 59.3 percent from the field as the No. 24 Xavier University men's basketball team defeated Detroit by an 88-55 score on Tuesday evening at Cintas Center. With the win, XU improves to 7-1 while the Titans slip to 2-6.

Tuesday's contest marked XU's first-ever "Throwback Night" at Cintas Center, as Xavier donned uniforms that were replicas of the ones the team wore during its time in the Midwestern Collegiate Conference.

Duncan's 25 came on 9-of-11 shooting from the field, including 4-of-4 from long-range. Senior forward Justin Doellman was the other Musketeer in double-figures, scoring 10 points and dishing-out three assists in only 21 minutes of action.

Freshmen Derrick Brown and Adrion Graves each scored nine points. Brown was 4-of-5 from the field and Graves tied his career-high with four rebounds. Seven Musketeers scored at least seven points as XU netted 70 or more points for the sixth time this season.

XU built a 50-26 lead at the half and Detroit would never threaten in the second session. The Musketeers led by at least 30 points for most of the second half and extended their lead to 34 points, 88-55, after freshman Jason Love converted on an old-fashioned 3-point play in the game's final minute.

Xavier's offense was in full swing Tuesday as the Musketeers were 32-of-54 from the floor, 11-of-23 (47.8 percent) from deep and 24 of XU's 32 field goals came via the assist.

Xavier's point guard play was rock solid as Drew Lavender and Johnny Wolf combined to drop 11 dimes without turning the ball over once.

XU also won the battle of the boards by a 32-to-26 count and held a 24-to-16 edge on the defensive glass.

Detroit trailed by only one point, 10-9, after Brandon Cotton hit a jumper at the 16-minute mark. However, that was as close as the Titans would get as XU seized control of the game with a decisive 17-0 run over the next 4:20 to take a 27-9 lead on a Brandon Cole dunk.

XU continued to distance itself from the Titans and took its largest lead of the half, 50-26, at intermission. The Musketeers scorched the nets at a 63 percent rate in the first half and shot 60 percent from deep in the first stanza.

Xavier also used some flair to build its season-high 24-point halftime lead as Brown added a pair of alley-oop dunks to the action. The first came off an inbounds play from Lavender and the second came on the fast break off a lob from Stanley Burrell.

XU will return to the hardwood on Saturday, December 9 when the team travels to Nebraska to take on Creighton. Game time is set for 8 p.m. EST.
