Xavier University Musketeers vs. Kent State University Golden Flashes

Game Notes

Xavier had to overcome a deficit of 12 points in the first half (29-17) with 6:44 remaining in the first half, the most the Musketeers have trailed at home this season.

Jordan Crawford led all scorers with 21 points, his third game of the season scoring 20 or more. Terrell Holloway contributed 13 points, his season best to date, and Jason Love chipped in 10. Love also grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the year, and Holloway had 5 assists. The Golden Flashes were led by Justin Greene and, off the bench, Mike McKee who each scored 13.

Xavier is now 124-17 (.880) at Cintas Center, its on-campus home arena, with a 13-game home winning streak. XU is 62-7 (.898) against non-conference teams since Cintas Center opened during the 2000-01 season.

Xavier shot 57.4% from the floor for the game.  The Musketeers has now won 51 straight games when they have shot at least 50% from the floor.  Xavier’s last loss when they shot at least 50%, was a 81-79 loss at Temple (1/25/06) despite shooting 57.7% against the Owls.

 

Runs

Kent State raced out to an 11-4 lead with 15:03 remaining in the first half, fueled by an 8-0 run.  Brad Redford stopped the run with a three-pointer off the bench at the 14:23 mark, but the Golden Flashes responded with five unanswered points to extend its lead to 16-7 with 13:28 remaining.  Five Kent State players scored during the run, with four each from Brandon Parks and Anthony Simpson.

Xavier finished the first half on a 16-3 tear to take a 36-34 halftime lead, its first of the game.  Terrell Holloway led the way with seven points during the run.  Jordan Crawford added three points during the run to finish the half with 14.

Leading by just 49-48 with 14:01 to play in the second half, Xavier scored nine straight points to extend the lead to 58-48 with 10:53 to go.  Jordan Crawford scored three and three other Musketeers had a basket in the run.

 

Up Next: Xavier travels to Manhattan, Kansas, to play the Kansas State University Wildcats of the Big 12 Conference on Tuesday, December 8.  The teams tip off at 9:00 EST.  The game will be broadcast on ESPNU.  The Musketeers and Kansas State last met on December 31, 2007, at U.S. Bank Arena, a commanding victory for Xavier, 103-77.  Xavier leads the series 4-2, with wins in the last three games between the two teams.  Xavier also beat the Wildcats in the first round of the NCAA tournament, 87-79, on March 16, 1989, in Indianapolis.
