CINCINNATI -The No. 12/12 Xavier Musketeers defeated the visiting Georgia Bulldogs 70-56 Friday evening at Cintas Center. Four Musketeers scored in double figures, while the defense was able to quell the Bulldog offense in the early going of both halves.

With his 12 points, senior Tu Holloway is now No. 25 all-time in program history in scoring with 1,283 career points. Holloway was a spotless 8-for-8 from the charity stripe and dished out three assists. Classmate Kenny Frease also added 12 points off 6-of-10 shooting to go with nine boards and three dimes.

Junior Travis Taylor had his first double-double as a Musketeer with 10 points and 12 boards. Taylor was a perfect 2-for-2 from the line and 4-for-8 from the floor. Junior Mark Lyons also had 10 points.

Xavier was able to shoot 49.0 percent from the floor and held Georgia to 32.1 percent. The Musketeers out-muscled the Bulldogs in the paint draining 36 points in the paint to Georgia's 16. XU outrebounded UGA 40-31, won the second-chance points battle 15-6 as well as fast break points 10-2.

The second half started much like the first half with the Xavier defense able to stifle the Bulldog offense. Georgia was held without a field goal for the first five minutes of the second frame. The Musketeers extended their lead in the second and lead by as many as 36.

The Musketeers kept the Bulldogs quiet for the first seven minutes of the contest, with Georgia unable to convert on a score until the 12:37 mark when Donte' Williams got a dunk. Georgia was 0-for-11 during that span.

As both squads headed into the locker rooms for intermission, Xavier held the 28-19 lead after shooting 47.6 percent from the field in the first half to Georgia's 21.4 percent. The Musketeers outscored the Bulldogs 20-6 in the paint in the first half, while converting 10 points off of 11 Georgia turnovers. Georgia's 19 points in the first half was the least Xavier has allowed this season since the Nov. 15 game vs. IPFW when 22 points were scored.

Next up for the Musketeers are the Vanderbilt Commodores. Xavier will travel to Nashville for a Monday night match-up that will be featured on ESPN2. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. Stay tuned to for more information on Xavier basketball.
