Xavier defeated Robert Morris 61-59 on the strength of Brad Redford’s two one-and-one free throws with 37 seconds to go in the game. 

Trailing 19-17 with 12:31 to go in the first half, Xavier went on a 9-0 run to take a 26-19 lead with 8:31 left.  Justin Martin led the Musketeers with five points during the run.

After Robert Morris had cut the Xavier lead to 36-35 with 18:36 to go in the second half, Xavier went on a 7-0 run to extend its lead to 43-35 with 15:41 left.  Justin Martin sank a three-point goal to lead the Musketeers.

Justin Martin scored a career-high 17 points on the strength of a career-high four three-pointers, eclipsing his previous high of 12 against Long Beach State on December 22, 2011.  He also pulled down four rebounds.

Dee Davis added 15 points and three assists.

Semaj Christon added 12 points in his second regular-season game and first start as a Musketeer, and set a new career high in points.  He also assisted on six baskets.

Travis Taylor led all rebounders (both teams) with seven rebounds and contributed eight points.

Karvel Anderson and Velton Jones led RMU with 17 and 15 points respectively.  Anderson’s 17 were a career high at Robert Morris.

The Musketeers have now won seven in a row at Cintas Center, going back to a loss last season to Saint Louis on January 25, 2012.  Xavier’s all-time record at Cintas Center is now 165-21 (.887) and 80-10 (.889) against non-conference opponents since Cintas Center opened for the 2000-2001 season.

Xavier’s record against Robert Morris all time is now 4-0.

Xavier next plays on Thanksgiving Day, November 22, at 2 PM, against the University of the Pacific Tigers of the Big West Conference, in the first round of the DIRECTV Classic in Anaheim, California.  The game will appear on the ESPNU network and will be the first meeting ever between the two schools.  The Musketeers will also play in the tournament on Friday, November 23, against either Drexel or St. Mary’s, time to be determined, and then again on November 25, opponent and time likewise to be determined.

The Musketeers next play at Cintas Center on Thursday, December 6, against Vanderbilt, at 7:30 PM.
