Xavier University Musketeers vs. IPFW Mastodons
The Xavier Musketeers poured in 13 points in the overtime period, and pulled away from the IPFW Mastadons, defeating them 76-66. Tu Holloway scored 6 of those points in scoring a game-high 24 points. Four other Musketeers scored in double figures, including Jeff Robinson with 11, Jamel McLean with 11, Mark Lyons with 11, and Dante’ Jackson with 10. McLean, in his first action of the season, grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds. IPFW was led by Zach Plackmeier and Ben Botts, each with 13 points.
Xavier extended it’s home winning streak to 26 games at Cintas Center. It is the third-longest active home court winning in the country and the longest by any XU squad since the building opened for the 2000-01 season.
Xavier, beginning its 11th season at Cintas Center, is now 137-17 (.890) all-time at its on-campus arena.
The game had 4 ties and 3 lead changes.
This is the first overtime game for Xavier this season. Last year, they were involved in five overtime games, including 3 double-overtime games. The most recent overtime game was vs. Kansas State in the NCAA Tournament (3-25-10, 2OT) in which Xavier lost 101-96. The last overtime game at Cintas Center was against Richmond (2-28-10, 2OT) in which Xavier won 78-76.
Jeff Robinson had a career-high 11 points and a career-high six rebounds. His previous highs were seven points versus Western Michigan, (11-12-10) and three rebounds, set three times, most recently versus Western Michigan.
Jamel McLean scored 11 points, grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds and added three blocked shots (one shy of his career high) in his first regular season game of the season. It is the 6th double-double of Jamel’s XU career. Jamel was expected to miss 3-6 weeks as a result of an injury sustained in the November 2 exhibition game against Northern Kentucky University. Jamel was in tonight’s starting lineup and played 29 minutes.
Tu Holloway had a career high nine rebounds. His previous high was seven rebounds at Rhode Island (1-15-09). Tu also had 24 points following his 25 points scored versus Western Michigan last Friday night. His career high is 26 points versus Kansas State in NCAA Tournament (3-25-10) and Cincinnati (12-13-09)
Mark Lyons dished out 7 assists while adding 10 points.
Trailing 54-47 at 9:16 of the second half, IPFW went on a 10-2 run to take their first lead of the second half at 57-56. Tu Holloway would stop the run and regain the lead for XU with an end-to-end layup, making the score 58-57.
Up Next: Xavier will travel to the U.S. Virgin Islands to play in the 2010 Paradise Jam. The first of its three games will be against the Iowa Hawkeyes on Friday night, 8:30 p.m. XU will face either Alabama or Seton Hall in its second round game.
