The Musketeers will open up the 2007-08 regular season when they take on Junior B.J. Raymond scored 14 points on 6-of-10 shooting and also buried a pair of treys for the Musketeers. Senior point guard Drew Lavender picked up where he left off last year, scoring 13 points and dishing-out four assists in 26 minutes of action. Sophomore forward Derrick Brown added nine points and seven rebounds while electrifying the crowd of nearly 7,000 with a pair of high-flying slam dunks. Xavier led by eight points at the half and the Musketeers maintained that edge, 41-33, with 17:10 to go. However, XU began firing on all cylinders and sprinted out to a 10-0 run over the next 4:40 to seize control of the contest. The decisive run was capped by a Jason Love old-fashioned 3-point play at the 12:30 mark. The Musketeers shot a blistering 59.5 percent (25-of-42) from the floor on the night and held a commanding 35-to-26 rebounding edge, including a 30-to-15 advantage on the defensive glass. XU once again was solid from the charity stripe, connecting on 18 of its 22 free throw attempts. The Tigers showed plenty of fight early as Xavier found itself knotted up at 11 with 13:30 remaining after Vincent Crutcher converted on a put-back. XU would respond though and charged out to a 10-1 over the next 2:20 thanks to five points a piece from Brown and Raymond.
