Xavier's Dance Cut Short By NC State, 74-59

DAYTON, Ohio- Xavier could not catch momentum, falling, 74- 59, to North Carolina State in the 2014 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship First Round.
Xavier finishes the season with a 21-13 record, while NC State improves to 22-13.
Starting for the first time since Seton Hall, Stainbrook scored six of Xavier's first eight points to keep Xavier within one of NC State. The Wolfpack seized momentum and went on an 8-0 run.
Xavier answered with a Christon fast-break layup to begin a 6-0 spurt of its own. XU fell behind by double digits before cutting the deficit to one, 27-26, but the Wolfpack pushed back and took a 34-28 lead into the locker room.
Opening the second half, XU scored first when Christon fed Justin Martin for a dunk to cut NC State's lead to four. The Wolfpack answered, bringing their lead to seven, 37-30. Five-straight points on a Dee Davisthree and Christon layup brought the deficit to two.
NC State used a 6-0 run to regain momentum and seize control of the game. The Wolfpack built as much as a 17-point margin before winning, 74-59.
Xavier shot 42 percent (23-55), while NC State shot 55 percent (29-53). Xavier won the rebounding battle, 31-29.
After grabbing two quick fouls in the first half, T.J. Warren finished the game with a team-high 25 points and three steals. Lennard Freeman pulled down six rebounds for the Pack.
