AMHERST, Mass. (AP) - Stephane Lasme had 18 points and 11 rebounds and Jeff Viggiano sparked a late 13-2 run as Massachusetts ended the regular season with a 65-56 win over Xavier on Saturday.
Viggiano, who had 12 points and was honored before the game as the team's only senior, hit a 3-pointer with 5:15 left to give the Minutemen (13-14, 8-8 Atlantic 10) the lead for good, 57-54.
Xavier (17-10, 8-8) went without a field goal for the final eight minutes of the game.
Lasme went 7-of-11 from the field and 4-for-4 from the line.
Wolf had eight in the first half as Xavier took a 33-32 halftime lead.
The win clinched the No. 7 seed for UMass in the Atlantic 10 Tournament, which begins Wednesday in Cincinnati. Xavier won't know its seed until after Sunday's game between Fordham and Temple. If Temple wins, Xavier would be the No. 8 seed. If Fordham wins, the Musketeers would drop to No. 10 and play UMass.
