BRONX, N.Y. -- Junior forward Jamel McLean led the way with 16 points as the No. 25 Xavier Musketeers rolled Atlantic 10 foe Fordham 82-56 Wednesday night at Rose Hill Gym. Terrell Holloway posted 14 points while fellow New York native Mark Lyons earned 11 points on the night.

With the win, the Musketeers improved to 22-7 overall and 13-2 in the Atlantic 10. Fordham fell to 2-25 overall and 0-15 in the A-10.

McLean's 16 points came on 6-of-10 from the field. He also pulled down eight rebounds which tied Jordan Crawford for second on the team in boards for the night. Senior Jason Love pulled down 13 boards to lead the Musketeers.

Xavier held a 14-point lead and quickly expanded the score in the second half. Crawford hit a fast break layup and a free throw with 16:35 left to play to extend the XU lead to 58-37. He followed with a 10-footer at the 15:51 mark to extend the Musketeer lead.

Andrew Taylor took a pass from Crawford to the rim for two as he extended the Xavier lead to 69-46 with 9:16 left in the game. Brian Walsh hit a jumper from just inside the arch at the 2:48 mark to give the Musketeers a 29-point lead.

Jamel McLean's 13 points in the first half led the Musketeers to a 45-31 halftime lead. McLean's 13 points came on 6-of-8 shooting. McLean was followed in scoring by Lyons and Holloway with 10 apiece.

XU 15 second chance points in the first frame, thanks to four offensive rebounds by McLean and three by Jason Love.

The Musketeers jumped out to an early lead but the Rams managed to tie the score at eight all on a layup by Brenton Butler at the 16:23 mark in the first half. Fordham managed to take a 22-21 lead with 9:15 left in the first frame only to lose it to the Musketeers 16 seconds later on a 3-pointer by Lyons to put the score at 24-22 in favor of the Musketeers.

 

 

Xavier will return to action Saturday as they play host to A-10 rival St. Bonaventure in the regular season finale. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. and the game will be televised on Fox Sports Ohio. Senior Jason Love will be honored before the game.
