Xavier (18-10, 9-5 Atlantic 10) opened a 16-point first-half lead, fell behind by three points midway through the second half, then rallied to defeat Richmond (15-15, 6-9), 65-57. Kenny Frease led the Musketeers with 19 points and 14 rebounds, both season highs. Tu Holloway scored 16 points, and Mark Lyons added 10. Holloway dished out 6 assists. Richmond was led by Darien Brothers who scored 15 points and Kendall Anthony who chipped in 10. Brothers and Derrick Williams each grabbed 5 rebounds and Francis Martel had 3 assists.

Senior All-American Tu Holloway is in 11th place on XU's all-time scoring list with 1,668 points. He now trails No. 10 Nick Daniels (1975-79), who scored 1,690 points in his XU career, by just 22 points.

With 10 points in tonight's game, Mark Lyons moved into 39th place on XU's all-time scoring list with 1,091 points. He passed Jim Boothe (1954-57) who scored 1,085 points and Bill Kirvin (1959-62) who scored 1,088 points. Next up on the scoring list for Lyons are Huck Budde (1950-53) and Derrick Brown (2006-09) in 37th place with 1,096 points, Kevin Frey (1998-02) who is in 36th with 1,102 points, and B.J. Raymond (2005-09) who is in 35th place with 1,104 points.

Xavier had a 41 to 22 rebounding advantage, including 20 offensive rebounds. The plus-19 rebounding margin was the second-highest of the season for the Musketeers. XU had a 54-33(plus-21) rebounding advantage at Vanderbilt (11-28-11).

Senior Kenny Frease recorded season highs in scoring and rebounding with 19 points and 14 rebounds for his third double-double of the season and the tenth of his career.

With 19 points in tonight's game, Kenny Frease is just 11 points shy of becoming the 50th member of Xavier's 1,000-point club.

Tu Holloway and Mark Lyons were each 4-for-4 from the free throw line in the final 31 seconds of the game to secure the victory.

After beginning the game 0-for-10 from the field, the Spiders shot 60.5 percent (23-for-38) for the remainder of the game, including 16-for-26 (61.5 percent) in the second half.


Xavier opened the game with a 16-0 run through the first 11:24 of the contest. Kenny Frease scored 6 points, Mark Lyons added 4 points, and Tu Holloway had 3 assists. During the stretch, Richmond was 0-for-10 from the field and committed 9 turnovers. Derrick Williams hit a 3-points at 8:36 to stop the Spiders' scoring drought.

Trailing 18-3 at 8:04, Richmond finished the half with a 19-7 run to close the deficit to 25-22 at the half. Kendall Anthony scored 6 points during the run and the Spiders shot 7-for-11 from the field, 6-for-7 from the free throw line, and did not commit a turnover. Xavier shot just 2-for-11 during the stretch and committed 5 turnovers.

Up Next: Xavier travels to St. Louis to face the Billikens at Chaifetz Arena on Tuesday, February 28 at 9 p.m. Xavier leads the all-time series, 28-13, but lost to St. Louis on January 25, 2012, at Cintas Center, 73-68. The loss snapped the Musketeers' conference record 43-game Atlantic 10 Conference home winning streak. In that contest, The Billikens built a 41-29 halftime lead, and led by 14 points with 16:36 remaining, before the XU put together a 19-5 run that knotted the score at 50-all with 10:20 remaining. Saint Louis responded with an 8-0 run to take a 58-50 lead at 7:12, and Xavier could get no closer than three points the rest of the way. Mark Lyons scored 27 points, Tu Holloway added 22, and Jeff Robinson chipped in 10. The Billikens were led by Brian Conklin who scored 19, Rob Loe had 14, and Jordair Jett and Cody Ellis each chipped in 11. XU has won the last three times it has visited St. Louis.
