CINCINNATI- The Xavier men’s basketball team ousted the Richmond Spiders 65-57 at Cintas Center on Throwback Jersey Night. Senior Kenny Frease had a season-high 19 points and a season-high 14 rebounds to complete his double-double.

Xavier improved to 18-10 overall and 9-6 in the Atlantic 10. The Spiders dropped to 15-15 for the season and 6-9 in the conference. Xavier is now 13-4 in the all-time series against Richmond.

This was Frease's third double-double of the season, the last coming on Feb. 4 in the lose to Memphis. Senior Tu Holloway dropped 16 points and dished out a game-high six assists. Junior Mark Lyons added 10 points including 4-of-4 from the free throw line.

Frease reeled in two crucial offensive rebounds in the closing minute to extend Musketeer possessions. Holloway drained four clutch free throws to seal the victory for Xavier.

The game was neck and neck during the second half as there were five ties and two lead changes. XU shot 40.3 percent (25-of-62) from the field while UR fired 47.9 percent (23-of-48). The Musketeers outrebounded the Spiders 41-24 and dominated in the paint outscoring UR 40-20.

Richmond knotted up the score at 35-35 with 13:30 left in the game when Greg Robbins dropped a long-range trey from the left wing. This marked the first lead for the Spiders in the game.

Xavier finished the first half leading Richmond 25-22. Frease nearly posted a double-double in the first half with his eight points and eight rebounds.

The Musketeers had complete control over the start if the game as they began the game with a 16-0 run lasting for 11 over minutes. Xavier forced nine turnovers and Richmond didn’t connect on its first 10 attempts during that span.

The Spiders were able to cut the lead to 25-20 at the 2:15 mark in the first half. Richmond finished the half with a 13-7 run of its own.

Darien Brothers of Richmond had a team-high 15 points from 6-of-11 shooting from the field.
