CINCINNATI - The Xavier Musketeers men's basketball team dominated the DePaul Blue Demons, 83-64, Wednesday night at Cintas Center. Junior Justin Martinscored a career-high 22 points in the victory. The Musketeers improve to 18-8 on the year and 8-5 in BIG EAST play. The Blue Demons fall to 10-17 overall (2-12 BIG EAST).

To go along with his career-high in points, Martin had seven rebounds and two assists. He was 3-of-3 from behind the arc. Martin has scored in double figures in 11 of 13 BIG EAST games.

Four Musketeers scored in double figures in the win. Fellow junior Dee Davistied his season-high total with 17 points. Davis also tied his season high with four three-pointers made and posted seven assists and two rebounds.

Sophomore Semaj Christonfinished with 14 points, seven assists and four boards. Christon has scored in double figures in 14-straight games.

Senior Isaiah Philmorecontributed 11 points, six rebounds and one assist.

Xavier opened up the game dominant on the defensive end. The Musketeers held the Blue Demons scoreless for the first 4:24 of the game and to just two baskets in eight minutes. During that time frame, Xavier unleashed a 16-2 run on seven points from Christon.

However, DePaul did not go away due to their three-point efficiency in the first half. The Blue Demons made 6-of-12 behind the arc. That included back-to-back threes to cut the lead to 10, but Davis responded with a three of his own. Xavier had a 39-27 halftime lead. The 27 points against Xavier's defense tied for the lowest in a first half in BIG EAST play (Seton Hall).

The second half opened up much like the first, as Xavier started a 12-0 run from the help of Martin, who scored eight points during the stretch including two threes. Xavier's defensive intensity returned, as the team held DePaul to just two points over the first 4:29 and to just 10 points over 8:26. The Musketeers maintained a 69-49 lead at the under-eight media timeout. While DePaul managed to cut the lead to 16, Xavier held on for an 83-64 victory.

Xavier shot 64.3 percent (27-of-42) from the field and 80 percent (8-of-10) from behind the arc. Both shooting percentages are the highest for the Musketeers this season. Overall, the Blue Demons shot a 35.8 field goal percentage (19-of-53), making 7-of-22 (31.8 percent) from long range.

The Musketeers had a season-high 22 assists, their most since a 25-assist output against Fairleigh-Dickinson last season. Xavier controlled down low, scoring 38 points in the paint and grabbing 33 boards to DePaul's 26. The team also had 24 fast-break points.

Billy Garrett was DePaul's leading scorer with 17 points. He also had five assists and two rebounds. The Musketeers will play the next two on the road, with the first coming on Saturday in a rematch with the Georgetown Hoyas. The game will be on Sat., Feb. 22 at 11:30 a.m. and will be televised on FOX Sports 1. Xavier made a furious late-game rally to defeat Georgetown, 80-67, when the teams met on Jan. 15 at Cintas Center.
