Tu Holloway scored 32 points to lead Xavier (17-9, 8-4 Atlantic 10) to an 86-83 overtime win against I-75 rival Dayton (16-10, 6-6). Mark Lyons scored 20 points and Dezmine Wells added 12. Andre Walker grabbed 8 rebounds and Holloway dished out 5 assists. Dayton was led by Kevin Dillard who scored 20 points, Chris Johnson and Paul Williams with 18 apiece, and Matt Kavanaugh with 11. Kavanaugh grabbed 11 rebounds and Dillard had 6 assists.

With tonight's overtime victory, Xavier extended its win streak over Dayton in Cincinnati to 27 straight games. The last time Dayton defeated XU in Queen City came in the 1980-81 season.

Xavier and Dayton have played 157 times, but this was just the fourth overtime game in the series. The last overtime game occurred on February 2, 2000, when XU knocked off the Flyers at Cincinnati Gardens, 65-64. Prior to that, UD defeated XU at UD arena on December 12, 1981, 62-61. The first overtime game played between the two schools occurred in the NIT Finals in Madison Square Gardens, as the Musketeers edged the Flyers, 78-74, March 22, 1958, to claim the title.

With 32 points tonight, senior All-American Tu Holloway moved into 11th place on XU's all-time scoring list with 1,652 points. He moved past Bob Quick (1965-68), who scored 1,636 points in his career. Next up is Nick Daniels (1975-79), who is 10th on the all-time scoring list with 1,690 points.

Mark Lyons scored 20 points to move into 44th place on XU's all-time scoring list with 1,066 points, passing Gary Massa (1977-81), who scored 1,049 points and Victor Fleming (1980-84) who scored 1,059 points. Next up for Lyons is Aaron Williams (1989-93) and Joe Geiger (1961-64), who share 42nd place on the list with 1,073 points, and Bob Pelkington (1961-64) in 41st place with 1,075 points.

With 32 points in tonight's game, Tu Holloway surpassed the 30-point mark for the third time in his career. His career high is 33 points at Richmond (1-29-11). He also scored 31 points against Seton Hall (11-21-10).

Tu Holloway finished the night 14 of 15 from the free throw line. It marked the 18th time in his XU career that he has scored in double figures from the free throw line. His career high for made free throws in a game is 17 for 17 at Richmond (1-29-11). For his career, Holloway has made 623 free throws. Xavier All-American David West holds the school record for career free throws made with 662. He also is on pace to break the career free throw percentage record of 84.3 percent by Joe Geiger (1961-64). Holloway currently is shooting 85.1 percent for his career.


Trailing 2-0 at 19:27, XU went on a 9-0 run to lead 9-2 at 16:42. Tu Holloway scored 5 points during the spurt.

Trailing 18-14 at 11:08, Dayton went on an 11-0 run to take a 25-18 lead at 8:09. Kevin Dillard had 5 points, all on free throws, during the stretch.

Trailing 27-20 at 7:25, XU went on a 12-0 run to take a 32-27 lead at 3:13. Tu Holloway scored 5 points during the stretch.

Trailing 32-27 at 3:13, UD went on a 10-0 run to take a 37-32 lead with 33 seconds remaining in the first half. Paul Williams scored 8 points, including a pair of 3-pointers during the spurt.

Trailing 41-37 at 18:05 of the second half, XU went on a 10-0 run to take a 47-41 lead at 14:57. Dezmine Wells scored 6 points and Andre Walker 4 points during the spurt.

Up Next: Xavier travels to Amherst, Massachusetts, to face the UMass Minutemen on Tuesday, February 21, at 7 p.m. XU leads the all-time series with UMass, 14-8, including six in a row. In last year's only meeting, XU defeated UMass at Cintas Center, 79-50, on January 12, 2011. In that contest, the Musketeers broke open a 14-all tie with eight minutes left in the first half with a 21-4 run to take a 35-18 advantage into halftime. Tu Holloway led five Musketeers in double-figure scoring with 19 points and 8 assists. Kenny Frease scored 16 points, Mark Lyons added 15, Dante Jackson chipped in 11, and Jamel McLean registered a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
