The Xavier Musketeers (18-7, 9-2 Atlantic 10) defeated the Saint Joseph’s Hawks (9-17, 3-9 A-10) 88-52. Jordan Crawford scored 20 points to lead four Musketeers in double-figure scoring. Mark Lyons added a career-high 19 points, Jason Love scored 15 points, and Jamel McLean chipped in 14 points. Love grabbed 12 rebounds and Terrell Holloway had six assists. Saint Joe’s was led by Garrett Williamson who scored 17 points, Carl Baptiste had 4 rebounds, and Williamson and Chris Prescott each had 3 assists.


With tonight’s victory, XU extended its home-court winning streak in Atlantic 10 play to 30 games. The win also gave XU its 22nd straight victory at Cintas Center, which is the third-longest active streak in the country. Now in its 10th season playing its home games at Cintas Center, Xavier is 133-17 (.887) at the on-campus arena and 68-10 (.872) against Atlantic 10 competition.


Through 11 Atlantic 10 games, Xavier has held opponents to just 21.1 percent (44-for-209) shooting from behind the three-point arc, the best in the conference. For the season, the Musketeers have held opponents to 27.5 percent (126-for-458) from behind the arc. Entering the game, XU was ranked 11th nationally in three-point percentage defense.


Xavier outrebounded Saint Joe’s 53-17, giving it a season-high 36-rebound advantage, the largest on record at Xavier.


Xavier is now 17-2 this season when it scores at least 70 points, with the only being at Wake Forest and at Temple. On the defensive side, XU is 14-2 when it holds the opponent under 70 points.


Saint Joe’s was just 1-for-19 (.053) from behind the three-point arc, both season lows by a Xavier opponent. The Hawks’ 17 rebounds also were a season low by an XU opponent.


Senior Jason Love won his 100th game in a Musketeer uniform, the second-most victories by any XU player. He trails only B.J. Raymond, who had a school-record 103 wins as a Musketeer. Love and 2009 graduate Derrick Brown share the school record for NCAA Tournament wins with six.


Mark Lyons scored a career-high 19 points. His previous high was 13 points against Miami (12-23-09). He also knocked down a career-best 4 three-pointers. His previous high was two three-pointers, which he accomplished three times.


Dante Jackson matched his career high with 8 rebounds. He also had 8 rebounds against Dayton (3-5-09).


Jason Love recorded his second straight and seventh double-double this season with 15 points and 12 rebounds.




Xavier opened the game with an 18-4 run at 13:52. Terrell Holloway paced the Musketeers with 5 points.


Trailing 18-4 at 13:52, Saint Joseph’s went on a 13-2 run to pull to within 20-17 at 11:03. Chris Prescott led the surge with 7 points.


XU answered with a 14-2 run to extend its lead to 34-19 at 3:38. Jamel McLean and Jordan Crawford each scored 4 points.



Up Next: The Musketeers, fresh off a three-game road trip, hit the road again for two more games away from Cintas Center, beginning Saturday, February 20, at Charlotte. XU leads the all-time series with Charlotte, 7-1, including an 86-74 victory on January 13 at Cintas Center. In that contest, XU jumped out to a 14-5 lead early on and took a 44-28 lead into halftime. Charlotte closed to within 10 points on a couple of occasions in the second half, but could get no closer. Jordan Crawford led the Musketeers with 18 points, while Dante Jackson added 14 points, Brad Redford chipped in 12, and Jason Love scored 10. Charlotte was led by An’Juan Wilderness with 15 points, Chris Braswell with 15, Shamari Spears with 13, and Derrio Green with 10. XU’s only loss to Charlotte occurred last season when the 49ers defeated the Musketeers, 65-60, at Halton Arena in Charlotte.
