DAYTON, Ohio - Semaj Christon scored a game-high-tying 17 points for Xavier (14-10, 7-4 A-10) in a 70-59 road loss to Dayton (14-11, 4-7 A-10) on Saturday afternoon. Christon was joined in double figures by Isaiah Philmore and Travis Taylor who scored 12 and 10, respectively.

Christon scored the first four points of the second half and Xavier outscored Dayton 11-6 in the first seven minutes of the frame to pull within three, 40-37. Erik Stenger followed a UD jumper with a dunk to keep the margin at three points, but the Flyers countered with nine-straight points to put the margin out to 12 points.

Five quick points on a Justin Martin three and a Philmore tip-in cut the deficit to seven with 8:16 remaining. That was as close as Xavier got the rest of the way.

Jeff Robinson hauled in a game-high ten rebounds and Taylor grabbed six for the Musketeers.

The Musketeers connected on 39 percent (20-for-51) of its shots, while the Flyers made 50 percent (23-of-46) from the field. Both teams went 3-of-10 (30 percent) from long range. XU was stingy with the ball, only committing nine turnovers in the game and forcing UD into 14 miscues. Both teams corralled 28 rebounds in the contest.

Xavier trailed, 34-26, at halftime. Philmore led all scorers at the break with eight points and Taylor chipped in six. XU connected on just 36 percent (9-of-25) of its shots, compared to 57 percent (12-of-21) for UD.

Dayton was led by Kevin Dillard with 17 points, four assists and four rebounds. Dillard was named MVP in a vote by the media members.

The Musketeers will head to Kingston, R.I., for a 7 p.m. tilt on Wednesday with the Rhode Island Rams.
