The Xavier Musketeers beat the Fordham Rams tonight 79 to 66.  Xavier extended its all-time record at Cintas Center to 171-23 (.882) over the nearly 13 seasons it has played at Cintas.  The Musketeers are also 90-11 (.891) all time at Cintas Center in Atlantic-10 games and have won 52 of their last 53 conference games at home (.981).

Trailing 6-2 with 18:10 left in the first half, the Rams scored 13 of the next 15 points to take a lead 15-8 with 13:05 remaining.  Brendan Frazier paced Fordham during the run with eight points, including two three-point goals.

With Fordham ahead 25-22 at the 7:50 mark, Xavier ran off 11 unanswered points to take a 33-25 lead with 4:27 left.  Semaj Christon led XU with six points during that stretch.

Leading 48-42 with 10:09 to go in the game, Xavier ran off eight straight points to pull ahead to 56-42 with 8:13 remaining.  Jeff Robinson and Justin Martin each scored three points during the streak.

Fordham’s Mandell Thomas led all scorers with 23 points.  He tied his career high, which he set against Saint Louis this season (2/6/13).  Luka ZIvkovic contributed nine points for the Rams.  He tied his career high, which also came against Saint Louis.

Semaj Christon led Xavier with 19 points and five assists.

Justin Martin contributed 16 points, one off his career high of 17.  Those 17 points came against Robert Morris on December 17, 2012.  Martin also contributed three three-pointers and seven rebounds.  Tonight was his first game with more than one three-point goal since the Drake game on Christmas Day.

Landon Amos set career highs with five points and five rebounds and his first collegiate basket.

Five Musketeers scored in double figures, as Travis Taylor, Jeff Robinson and Dee Davis had 10 each.  The last time five Musketeers scored 10 or more in a game was against Drake on Christmas Day.

The 38 points scored by the Musketeers in the first half are the most they’ve scored in the first half of a game since the opener against Fairleigh Dickinson.  That night Xavier scored 68 in the first half on the way to a 117-75 win (November 9, 2012).

Xavier set season highs with 27 free throws made out of 37 attempts.  Its previous high was 23 free throws made against Drake (11/25/12) and 34 free throw attempts at Duquesne (2/9/13).

Xavier scored 60 or more points for the 16th time this season and holds a 13-3 record in those games.  By comparison, the Musketeers have won only one of the seven games in which they have scored fewer than 60 points.

Xavier travels to Dayton’s UD Arena to take on the Flyers on Saturday the 16th at noon.  The game will appear on ESPN2.
