GAINESVILLE, Fla. – It was another exciting road game as Xavier visited to O’Connell Center to face the Florida Gators Saturday evening. Thanks to a balanced attack that saw three Musketeers in double-figures, Xavier was able to come away with a 76-64 non-conference win.

Xavier was led by senior Jason Love and junior Jamel McLean who each posted a double-double. Love finished the game with 20 points and 10 boards while McLean posted 12 points and a career high 15 rebounds.

With the win, the Musketeers improve to 17-7 overall while Florida falls to 17-8. This was the Musketeers second win over a Southeastern Conference opponent this season. The Musketeers defeated LSU on December 29 at Cintas Center.

The Gators came out of the locker room hot in the second half and tied the score at 47 on a Chanler Parsons layup at the 13:05 mark. Florida then took the lead on a Vernon Macklin jam at the 12:15 mark but a jumper by Kenny Frease knotted the score at 49 heading into the under 12:00 media timeout.

Xavier regained the lead and a 3-pointer by Dante’ Jackson at the 9:00 mark extended the XU lead to 57-52.

The Florida offense got back into the swing of things starting with a bucket by Erving Walker and followed by a trey from Parsons with 3:43 left to play that cut the XU lead to 62-59.

Jordan Crawford hit a timely layup and the old-fashioned 3-point play to extend the XU lead to six with 2:51 left in the game. Crawford struck again with 1:31 left when he split the Gator defense for a layup that gave the Musketeers a 69-59 lead.

XU got off to a hot start that was capped by a 10-0 run starting at the 15:44 mark. Frease chipped in with four straight free throws and Jason Love led the way with two big dunks in the run. The Musketeers led 21-10 heading into the under 12:00 media timeout. XU extended the lead to 25-13 on a layup by Love followed by a McLean dunk in transition. McLean followed with a rebound and a jam at the 8:46 mark to extend the XU lead to 14.

UF forward Vernon Macklin cut the XU lead to 10 with a jumper at the 1:47 mark as part of a 9-2 Gator run to end the half. The Musketeers went into the locker room leading 40-33 at halftime. XU was led in scoring by Love with 14 points on7-of-8 from the field. Jamel McLean was second in scoring in the first frame for XU with seven points.

Florida was led in the first half by Kenny Boyton and Macklin with seven each.
