CINCINNATI- The Xavier men's basketball team dominated Rhode Island in its 84-66 victory Wednesday at  sold-out Cintas Center. Senior Tu Holloway earned his second double-double of the season with his 20 point 10 rebound performance.

Xavier improved to 16-8 overall and 7-3 in the Atlantic 10 while Rhode Island dropped to 5-20 for the season and 2-9 in the conference. The Musketeers now lead the all-time series 18-3 including wins in the in 16 of the last 17 meetings.

Holloway continued his scoring success with his sixth-consecutive double-figure game and six assists. Holloway was 6-for-8 from the field and a perfect 8-for-8 from the free-throw line. Travis Taylor added 12 points in the Musketeer victory. Mark Lyons had 10 points and five assists to go on his stat sheet as well.

XU shot 52.6 percent (30-of-57) from the field and 70.4 percent in the second half. There were 19 assists for the Musketeers, one shy of tying a season-high. Rhode Island was held to 36.5 percent (23-of-63) from the field and 27.3 percent (6-of-22) from beyond the arc. Xavier had full control of the battle of the boards 42-26 and outscored URI in the paint 50-22.

Xavier converted on seven-consecutive field goals during the second half and expanded its lead to 25 with 8:12 left. The Musketeers were much more controlled in the second half as they only gave up seven turnovers.

Xavier closed out the first half by going on a 12-4 run and entered the locker rooms with a 27-17 lead. Holloway led all scorers with eight first half points.

During XU's run, eight points came off of a fast break and by four different scorers. Xavier had 12 fast break points to Rhode Island's four in the first half.

The Musketeers took a little longer to get in rhythm as they converted 10 turnovers within the first 20 minutes while only shooting 32.1 percent from the field. However, stingy defense by XU was able to keep URI to only six first half field goals.

This was a season-low points allowed for the Musketeers, the previous low was in their victory against Georgia on November 25. Xavier was able to force 11 turnovers and limited URI to only 22.2 percent from the field and 9.1 percent from long range.

Rams guard Billy Baron had a game-high 22 points off of 7-for-12 shooting from the field.
